Little did we know that when we married almost 5 years ago that we would struggle to start our own family. We assumed that we could plan when we wanted to have children after we enjoyed a couple of years together. All our friends didn't seem to have any problems especially now that we live in a seminary town.
It seems that infertility is somewhat of a silent struggle that doesn't often get discussed in church care group circles. I understand this is probably because of the nature of the topic. It's amazing to discover how many couples have experienced it, including those who miscarry.
In November 2007, I was dwelling over our options after a failed treatment and felt God's peace flood over me when I thought of adoption. So I shared this with Eric and told him that he had time to think about it with no pressure. Because of the holidays, we would be unable to schedule any more treatments. By January 2008, Eric agreed that we should pursue adoption!
After researching the area's adoption agency, we felt God's peace about a particular one. Before we even received the application, we were told that their agency was undergoing some changes and would not be accepting any new couples until it was resolved. Well, 6 months later never having peace to go to another agency, we finally got word that after many struggles and changes, the agency would remain open!!
So are you wondering what was good about 6 months of waiting? In that time frame, God blessed us with extra income to start saving towards the adoption and the waiting list for an infant went from 14 to 6 couples!
We are filling out the first part of the application. We were wondering how we'd finance this very expensive endeavor. 2 weeks ago, we found out that Eric was getting a promotion and a pay increase. What amazing timing!
We wanted to start this blog so that we can share the process with others. Hopefully you will be encouraged and that this will speak of God's part in it, even the little things we may easily forget. And someday we hope to be posting many pictures of our new little one!
